Well, Natalie Nyquist, from the olden days of HopeChest Magazine. :) Thanks for stopping by!

April, thanks for sharing your experiences! Vanessa's right that it's assuring to have a firm foundation in God's word! We always know where to go when we're wondering what to do!

Blessings,

Great article, Abigail! I well remember how I used to think that there was only one specific “will of God” for my life, and how worried I was that if I accidentally slipped up and made a wrong (or even just not the best) decision that I would mess up God’s plan for me and be miserable. Hmm…to think that I thought that I could make the plans of the Sovereign and Almighty God frustrated? That He couldn’t bring about whatever He wanted to do with my life or with the lives of those around me? Or that something I did could cause Him to scramble around or scratch His head as to how to fix my mistake? Absolutely not! As I studied Scripture and grew in my knowledge and relationship with the Lord, I realized that I wasn’t trusting God to be God. I was living as though the outcome of my life depended on me, not on the God who knew my days before they even began, held me in his palm, molded me to what I am today, and continues to grow me. These thoughts were humbling to say the least.
Please don’t misunderstand me…I do not advocate living however you want and believing that God will just “fix” everything without the call to live responsibly. (Paul cautions against that in Romans.) Rather, in studying the Bible, I’m learning (yes, it’s still a process!) to love Him is to obey (John 13-15). And God has given very clear commands in the Bible that I am to obey; it has also been wonderful to experience that obedience and abiding in Christ leads to fullness of joy!

Thank you for this post - it's reassuring to know that God's will is not something hidden, but has already been revealed to us through His word.
